Ikebana Workshop Sunday 17/07

Sundays Ikebana class, a huge thank you all who came and to Junko Popham for sharing the joy of her work with us. She was also able to keep the flowers alive in this heat, nothing short of a miracle! Many of the flowers had wilted on the day of the workshop, so fresh ones had to be sourced on the day from Junkos allotment in Builehill park, Salford. The extreme heat we have experienced shows how climate change can impact every aspect of our lives and what that means for our future. Once the floral emergency had be solved the workshop began and everyone was very engaged in learning the history of Ikebana, and how it replicates the shapes we see all around us in nature. Junko’s method is to teach us how to allow flowers to dance, to give them new life and to find the best stage for them to perform on. She speaks so tenderly about the produce that she uses, and the whole group were enchanted with her and the ancient art she teaches, much like we are.
