Yellowhammer is our bakery and pottery studio, open Wednesday to Sunday. The project is a collaboration between Where The Light Gets In, Rosie Wilkes, and potter Joe Hartley. Rosie previously worked as the baker at Where The Light Gets In before co-opening Yellowhammer. The name “Yellowhammer” comes from the songbird known for its unique call that sounds like “A little bit of bread and no cheese.” Here, we focus on simple baked goods and sourdough, using grain grown and milled in the UK, and ingredients from small farms that prioritise flavour and biodiversity. Our offerings include large loaves of sourdough available by whole, half, or quarter loaf, baguettes, rye bread, buns, sweet and savoury, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, cookies, pies, and tarts.

Our Head Grower Elektra is also the resident chef, curating an ever-changing menu of small plates. On certain evenings, we host supper clubs, and our bakery supplies the restaurant with bread. The pottery element involves design, production, and skill-sharing, providing a space for designers and the wider community to participate in workshops showcasing traditional and non-traditional methods. Yellowhammer is a friendly, casual place that cares about its local community and aims to share skills and food.
