Manchester Collective - NEON
This previous Sunday, we had the pleasure of hosting The Manchester Collective for their fifth and final performance of Neon. Composed by Hannah Peel, Neon explores our human existence within a cityscape, the relationships we have with sounds, the rare tranquility we can find in the cacophony of life and how the sounds of the hustle and bustle confront us.
Neon lies at the heart of the programme, built around Steve Reich’s monumental Double Sextet, the show interrogates the darker side of our urban dreams, evoking the intrigue and momentum of sleepless nights and crowded streets. These sounds are darkly swaggering, dirty and sly.
Led by musical director Rakhi Singh, Neon worked incredibly well in our space the high mill ceilings providing a spacious acoustic environment that allows the music to flourish .
