The Imagined City: Walking Tour

Thank you to The Modernist and everyone who joined us for The Imagined City: Walking Tour.

The walk explored the ambitious post-war plans to reshape the city centre—some realised, others left on the drawing board. These proposals sought to modernise a city deemed chaotic and unplanned, introducing vast highways and elevated pedestrian walkways to accommodate a growing reliance on cars. Reflecting on what was built, what wasn’t, and what has since disappeared, we contemplated the lasting legacy of these visions and their implications for how we navigate and experience urban life today.

This event is part of Where The Light Gets In: A Play In The City, which questions how urban environments shape our lives, from infrastructure to food systems.
We encourage you to join us for the rest of the programme over the coming months, exploring these themes further through events and our pop-up restaurants.
