Apple Scrumping
Wassailing is an ancient custom rarely practised today where a community would come together in the late Autumn to press their apples and celebrate the harvest. The word 'wassail' originates from the Anglo-Saxon phrase 'waes hael', which means 'good health'.
At the restaurant we have our own custom, the team comes together after one October Saturday service, to drink wine and scrump all of our apples. This year has been a little different however due busy schedules which culminated in Sam processing our whole harvest in the staff room one Friday night. The apples have been donated from a number of gardens surrounding Stockport and now pressed we will ferment the juice into cider to serve next year.
