REGENERATIVE FARMER Katie, Keepers Cottage Organics

 

We wish to use this platform to highlight the local farmers who work tirelessly to provide us with the best, most sustainable produce available. Recently, we paid a visit to our wonderful supplier Katie, from Keepers Cottage Organics, based in Hope Valley, Derbyshire.

Katie rears organic chicken and rare breed saddleback pigs. Her aim is to produce the highest quality pork and poultry from animals with exceptional welfare standards.

In May 2020, Katie bought her own land in Derbyshire and put it into organic conversion. She has a mixture of woodland, upland grazing and meadow fields.

This is not easy farming, and it is driven by being grateful for what the land can provide for us, rather than a need to produce a target from it. She has woodland for the pigs, upland grazing for the sheep and goats, and meadow fields for the poultry. She also has a mass of biodiversity in terms of flora and fauna to take care of.

Katie has recently opened a beautiful butchers shop in the heart of the Peak District, Tideswell. This is where she prepares and sells all of her own meat in the shop, with a ‘we have what we have on the day’ attitude. She also works with other small scale farmers who believe in sustainable farming methods. Like us, Katie can tell you exactly where every item has come from.

We’re thrilled to be serving Katies organic chicken on our tasting menu, and we are thrilled to continue to support regenerative farmers.
