Anna Frost’s visit to Gelveri Wines in Capadoccia, Central Anatolia.

Our sommelier Anna Frost is currently on the road, visiting Gelveri Wines in magical Capadoccia, Central Anatolia.

Udo Hirsch and Hacer Özkaya are working with some of the most ancient Turkish indigenous varieties, based in the foothills of sleeping Hasan Dag volcano. Their walled vine gardens reach 200+ years old, growing for decades without any chemical farming involved, still on their own rootstock, cared for by local families.

All wines are fermented and aged in the selection of Turkish, Roman, Azerbaïdjan amphoras known as ‘küp’ and bottled by hand in their 19th-century cellar.

A small selection of 12 bottles, including an oxidative Keten Gömlek and the latest vintage of Kalecik Karasi will be available at our restaurant next week, the first time in the UK.
