We are pleased to announce the Where The Light Gets In: Author Series, an upcoming event featuring a unique cheese and natural wine pairing evening with Angus D. Birditt, the renowned author of the book Portrait of British Cheese. This event will provide a fascinating insight into the world of British cheese, thoughtfully paired with exquisite natural wines, hand-selected by Group Sommelier Anna Frost.

Angus Birditt's beautiful book is a celebration of artisan and farmhouse cheeses of the British Isles. In his book, he documents the food, people, and places dedicated to the production, enjoyment, and preservation of time-honoured processes and techniques that make up the unique landscape that is British cheese. Through his essays, many photos, and recipes, Angus brings to life the joys and challenges of cheesemaking in 21st century Britain and shows how each of us can play our own small part in keeping alive this important part of our culinary and agricultural heritage.

The event will take place on Tuesday, 20th August 2024, from 18:30 to 21:30 at Where The Light Gets In, 7 Rostron Brow, Stockport, SK1 1JY. The ticket price is £55, which includes a curated selection of cheese and wine pairings, sourdough bread from Yellowhammer, pickles and local honey. Please note that seating is limited.

Angus D. Birditt is a celebrated food writer, photographer, researcher, and passionate advocate for British artisanal cheese. His book, "Portrait of British Cheese", is highly regarded for its thoughtful examination of British cheese-making, it has been longlisted in the esteemed André Simon Awards, nominated as Best Debut Food Book in the Fortnum & Mason's 'Food & Drink Awards', and featured in the Financial Times, The Independent, and BBC Food Programme's Books of the Year.

During the event, Angus will lead an engaging session under the atmospheric setting of Where The Light Gets In, delving into the traditional and innovative practices of British cheese-making. In addition to the interactive cheese and wine pairing experience, Angus will share his deep knowledge about the cultural significance and production subtleties of British cheeses and answer guests' questions in an interactive Q&A session.
